Dave is a lifelong Alaskan, born in Juneau and raised there and in Sitka. His passion for photography goes back to his childhood when he got his first snapshot camera.
Dave has worked as the ice man and on the fish cleaning lines in a local cold storage, ran a theater in Sitka his senior year in high school, crewed on a commercial fishing troller, worked as a Fish and Game stream guard, weighed pulp in the former pulp mill in Sitka and was Assistant Director of the Alaskan Youth Village in Juneau for three years. He also served six years on the Sitka Assembly and six years as a Governor’s appointee to the Alaska Judicial Council.
His primary occupation has been as a tax accountant, which gives him plenty of time in the off-season to hike the Sitka area looking for photo opportunities. He also oversees elections for several Alaska Native corporations, which gives him the opportunity to carry his camera to some of Alaska’s small villages in remote areas.
